On the morning of May 11th, a special capping ceremony was held in JSMC’s Simulation Center. Eleven special representatives from the Yancheng Medical Aid Team to Hubei were invited to participate in the ceremony. Party Secretary Hao Dafu, President Chen Guozhong with other vice presidents and department deans also presented.
2020 is the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth and the first international year of nurse and midwife confirmed by WHO with the theme of the Nurse’s Day is “To pay tribute to nurses and work together to defeat the epidemic.”
At the ceremony, a video of the graduates of JSMC stood at the frontline combating the epidemic took everyone back to the spring of 2020. The angels in white were fighting against the epidemic with missions and responsibilities kept in mind.
Then came the capping ceremony. Eleven members from the Yancheng Medical Aid Team to Hubei awarded nursing caps for fifty-five 2019 nursing students. Yan Chunyan, leader of the Medical Aid Team and the ICU head nurse of the People’s First Hospital of Yancheng, recalled the 71-day experience in Wuhan. Her touching speech drew both tears and applauses from the teachers and students. They are true Nightingales in the modern age, who acted by their own to compose the touching songs of life.
At the end of the ceremony, Party Secretary Hao Dafu addressed an encouraging speech to the nursing students of JSMC. He hoped that all nursing students can follow the examples of graduates, and strive to improve their professional qualities and practical skills, thus to be “the most-beloved person in the new era”.
